Job Description
We are seeking students who are interested in perusing dual Ph.D degrees between University of Liverpool (UK) and National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in the areas of CO2 conversion and chemical sensing. The candidates need to have outstanding academic credentials and excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
The most commonly quoted figure of merit for a CO2 conversion and chemical sensing but not limited. In chemical sensing, a major target is to develop flexible and disposable devices ease for wide range distribution of data collection and possibly for hand ware medical care applications. NTHU is a leading center on developing electrochemical and nano/microelectronic devices with a strong connection to national research centers including NSRRC, NDL, and ITRI. The group at UoL has extensive experiences in flexible device fabrication, electrochemical capability, as well as plasmon assisted chemical reaction techniques to fulfill each of needs in steps of device development. Through this project, the student will be benefit from gaining highly complementary experience in in both material synthesis, fail inspection, electronic device design, and wide range applications. Students have opportunities and excellent preparations for careers in professional scientists in research, education, or the application of this field in some prospective high-tech enterprises (such as Applied Optoelectronic Inc., Co, USA, tsmc, and Academic Sinica).

Quota for PhD program: 2 (1 for CO2 conversion and 1 for Chemical sensing device)
Project period and Stipend: 4 Years, Years 1- 2 in the group of Dr. Tsan-Yao Chen at NTHU and Years 3-4 in the group of Dr. Xin Tu and Dr. Simon Maher at UOL. The tuition fee will be waived during the study at both NTHU and UOL. The stipend rate will be $15000~$25000 TWD per month based on their performance.
Preferred Background/Qualification:
Engineering/Physics/ Chemistry, Optics and/or Material Science and Engineering.
